When people have hurt us deeply.

The bitterness we experience threatens the recovery process because it causes us to blame others for our problems. It may scare us to think of forgiving those who have hurt us. We may be afraid that releasing our hatred will require us to condone the bad things people have done to us.

We cannot remove our bitterness on our own. And it will never be easy to accept that God wants to rescue even the people we hate. We must allow God to change our heart as we work toward forgiving those who have hurt us. This will take time. God asks only that we be willing to let him begin the work in our heart.

Learning to let go of the pain and the anger requires a lot of work. An understanding of why your angry? What part did you play? and is it really worth your time and energy to continue to carry the burden around with you? You have to learn to be honest with your self, in order to grow and understand.

Addressing low self-esteem in substance abuse treatment

Therapists in rehabs everywhere work to improve the self-esteem and self image of their clients. Most people in recovery carry a lot of shame about their addiction. Some people feel weak or stupid for not having been able to quit on their own or for letting their substance abuse get as out of hand as it did.

Others are ashamed of things they did during active addiction, hurting friends and family. Mistreating themselves, allowing their health to decline, committing crimes against perfect strangers. These are very difficult things to come to terms with and accept. A big part of the problem is how conflicted most people feel about continuing to use substances and making these poor choices.Addiction rewires the brain to prioritize using substances over other things that an individual truly values-things like work, morality, independence, family and friends.

They dont want to do things that go against their values, but their brailns are telling them to go ahead and overlook those values. Many clients in rehab describe feelings of self-hatred, shame, guilt and worthlessness.

This is a tragic part of the disease of addiction and a key element that must be addressed in treatment for the mind, body and spirit to be healed.

I’m not sure where i got this article from, but I thought it was worth sharing.

Jesus and the disinherited

Just wanted to know if any of you have ever read the Book. Jesus and the disinherited by Dr. Howard Thurman? This was one of the hardest books to find. It’s not in the library’s here in Colorado. I had to order it through Amazon. It’s an eye opening piece of writing, at least I thought so. It gave me a different way of looking at the scriptures and how they apply to life of a people that have been push to the fringes of society. Just wanted to hear your thoughts.

When the time comes.

When the time comes to step into the anointing that God has for you. Will you be ready? Will you recognize that it is God that sets the path that is in front of you? The scriptures say. When you put your hands to the gospel plow. Turn your head not to the right or the left. For he that does is not worthy of the kingdom. With that being said it is truly important to know thy self. To not be pulled to the left or the right. To be a servant of God with integrity, love and compassion. Knowing always to look towards God for all understanding. Be patient in all things. Never be quick to anger. Be slow to speak unless your spirit is moved to say what God would have you to say. On this day, ask God. To manifest himself in your life. Ask the Lord to make your path straight and clear. If God calls your name don’t be afraid to answer. For it is truly a blessing at the end of your days , God may say. Welcome home. My faithful and humble servant. Have a blessed day. If no one has told you today. I love you. Know that I do. 😁

Something to think about.

Have you every heard the parable of the lost sheep. I’m betting you probably have, but have you ever really thought about the environment in witch the lamb resides? Probably not. Every thing in the environment demands something of the sheep. Whether it be, the wool. The trimming of the shrubs and vegetation and finally the ultimate sacrifice after being lead by the Judas goat to slaughter, for meat to put on the shepherds table. So what if that one sheep was aware enough to know the outcome and made a decision to leave. Only to be tracked down to be brought beck to once again to the very thing he was running from in the firstI place. I bring this up because there are two ways to look at that parable. One leads to life through death and the other leads to hell its self. So which direction does the sheep go. If he has never been included in the flock? How does he flee from the destruction. If he is always pursued to return to the flock that leads to destruction ? Just something to think about. Because that is part of the reason it is so difficult to change the perspective of so many caught up in destructive patterns. Either they don’t know how to leave, or they don’t know any different because the life they live is all they know. But sometimes they’re at peace living life how the spirit guides them. Not needing anyone to show them the way. Because they do what is right by staying focused on God. Just a thought. 🤔

Perception

How frustrating it can be to have a conversation with someone with different view of anything in life because of the prejudice that we may carry for a person, place or thing we may be discussing. One thing stands out in particular, and that is a person view of religion. When we think of the difference we often think of thing like the view the Muslims take about God. (Allah) or the Catholics or the Jews. But what about the difference that Christians take towards the laws and practice of God. The things he considers an abomination, the things that are considered disrespectful of the Holy Spirit. How a child should be raised. The list goes on and on. However from my perspective there is only one God one baptism, and PUTTING GOD FIRST IS THE GREATEST LAW OF ALL. second is to love thy mai or as you love yourself. How do you feel about the issues I’ve brought to the table this morning? Please take the time to express your view. Have a blessed and productive day😇

Living life with a clear understanding.

Life and relationships are strange bed fellows. You hope to have a life full of strong meaningful relationships with people that add to your life’s experiences. But that is often not the case in a world full of deception and hate. Why do so many of us look to outside influences to make us happy. Yet never find any happiness in those things. The things that last no more than the time it takes to think about something else. Most people spend their lives in a constant state of unhappiness, disillusionment. Full of deception and lack of morality or integrity. Lost dreams and no clear understanding of the gift of life its self. I say this because this was once how I thought and felt. Like there was no place I belonged. There’s a lot of people that have felt as I once did and maybe still do. It is a lonely feeling to be in a room full of people that say they love you and still feel alone. Mental illnesses are often the cause of those feelings. However sometimes it’s just from a life of neglect and abuse. It is my prayer that anyone that is struggling with life and happiness. Give God a chance. I’m not saying, I don’t have any character defects. But I will say this with all confidence. That when I came to believe that God could and would restore me if I would just believe he loved me and would guide me out of my despair. Once I started moving In the direction God was guiding me things began to change. The way, I felt about myself and how I thought about my neighbors. Life is truly a gift. Life is worth living and happiness can be obtained. If we would just humble ourselves. Ask to be forgive and pray and Meditate on his word. Anyway. If no one told you they love you today know that I do. 😃

Our will.

Turning our will over to God means turning away from the kind of of people who draw us into temptation. There is no better source of wisdom and direction than the word of God. When we fail to study and apply Gods word, we tend to drift through life. We are tossed by every new fad and philosophy that comes our way. Recognizing our sins and being willing to change our sinful ways is the only way to avoid Gods judgement. Gods wants us to live a Godly life. But if we refuse to work on removing our character defects that slow the recovery process, we will certainly suffer the consequences. (Life Recovery)

Thought for the day.

What does integrity really mean?
Integrity means following your moral or ethical convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. Having integrity means you are true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors you. I didn’t get the concept of who God is until I understood for myself what integrity meant for myself. Learning to be a man of integrity is not as easy as you might think. But it is required to understand the promises God made to all of creation. Just a thought. What do you think?
